If you’re a Representative appointed by a financial services provider, you’ll need to meet the FAIS “fit and proper” competence requirements. For most Representatives, this includes passing Regulatory Exam 5 (RE5) within two years of appointment. Failure to meet this requirement would prohibit you from working with most financial products.
If you plan to become a Representative, taking RE5 is a great idea. It shows employers that you’re serious about the role, willing to put in time and effort. And there’s another benefit: if and when you achieve your goal to be a Representative, you won’t need to join your colleagues preparing for RE5 – you’ll already be done!
Here’s a simple guide to help you register for, prepare for, take, and pass the RE5 exam with ease:
1. Take the RE5 Anytime Online course by Skillfully
You’ll get:

The RE5 exam is administered exclusively by Moonstone, with various testing locations across South Africa. The fee is R1,300. 3. Write your exam and obtain your RE5 certificate
After preparing, you will sit for the RE5 exam. Once you pass, you will earn your RE5 certificate, marking a significant and essential achievement in your financial services career.
